Chiamaka Ihejirika, MA, Supervised Therapist
Child, Teen, Family and Adult Therapist
I love working with people with diverse life stories and identities, including children, teens, adults and their families. I have a lot of experience helping people that are struggling with their emotions and behaviors including problems with sadness/depression/grief, fear (anxiety), and anger. I'll also help you, your child, and/or your family address the impact that emotional "stuckness" is having on relationships, meeting developmental milestones, and making it difficult to manage the responsibilities of life.
I love supporting People of Color. I also have a special interest in meeting the mental health needs and concerns of those that identify as Black and/or African through a culturally sensitive lens. I strive to really listen attentively to you and/or your child, help you make sense of how you or your child's symptoms developed, and provide an active, results-oriented approach regardless of which type of pain you or your child are in. I thoughtfully integrate evidence-based treatments to help reduce your symptoms as quickly as possible.
We'll also take an inventory of strengths in you/your child and sources of resilience, and build upon them to not only reduce symptoms but increase self-worth and access to positive emotion (like joy and excitement). Like all therapists at AMANI, there will also be a lot of skills training to address the weak points in child, parent, and family functioning, particularly parental responses to child emotions, behaviors, struggles, and symptoms. We’ll collaborate and work as a team through your journey to feeling and functioning better.
I am skilled at using evidence-based trauma treatments to help children and adults who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences and/or traumatic events.
I have completed my Master's Degree. I am in the final stages of my doctoral degree and am a Supervised Advanced Extern therapist with AMANI Clinical Services until the end of July 2025.
Give me a call. Let's get everyone feeling better.
***At AMANI Clinical Services, all child and family therapists are trained extensively on Dr. Hastings’ Harmonizing Your Home Program and use it as the foundation for treatment. Harmonizing Your Home Program©2012 is a combination of several of the most effective transdiagnostic child/family treatments available into a unique program. It has been consistently successful at reducing damaging child behavior and symptomatology (anxiety symptoms, physical aggression, verbal aggression, compulsions, defiant and oppositional behavior, school refusal, tantrums, etc.) by 90 percent at the 2 week post-launch mark. The increase in safety creates a foundation to build healthier, more fulfilling family bonds. Positive family interactions effectively reduce symptoms. Progress made is resistant to relapse. Response to treatment is individualized and not guaranteed. Families with the best outcomes had motivated parents. We work with families every day who are experiencing real, lasting change and increasing peace-making and peace-keeping in their families. ***
